Icarus Trailer Summary

Filmmaker Bryan Fogel’s 2017 documentary Icarus begins with an interview with two people discussing the Olympics. The interviewer asks “were you the mastermind that cheated the Olympics.” The interviewee responds “yes”. The scene is dramatically switched to a news cast reporting that “today Russia’s Olympic drug testing lab has been suspended.” It goes on to claim that 90% of Russian athletes in the Olympics are guilty of doping.

The interviewee from the first scene was the doctor involved in the doping scandal. He asserts that he was helping to facilitate one of the most elaborate doping ploys in sport’s history. The interviewer asks if Putin was involved in this ploy and the doctor responds yes.

A man states that this problem is actually bigger than it appears. He claims if affects the credibility of all sports and that why would he watch sports if he knows that the outcome is rigged.

The interviewer is found out to be Bryan Fogel. He is on a call with the doctor when it abruptly ends after the doctor exclaims his life is in danger. A second newscast shows dead bodies saying that two people connected to the Russian doping scandal are already dead. The film closes with dramatic scenes from the Olympics with a narration in the back exclaiming that there was never anti- doping protocols in Russia.
